PhD in

Molecular Biosciences

The program that leads to the academic grade of PhD in Molecular Biosciences is part of the institutional mission that seeks to offer to those that aspire to progress in an educational experience that is integrative and of excellente for a globalized world, supported by the critical cultivation of knowledge and the systematic generation of new knowledge.

The program belongs to the Faculty of Life Sciences of Andrés Bello University, that feeds off the work done in conjunction with academics that breed knowledge related to training in Molecular Biosciences at a superior level with an emphasis on interdisciplinary.

The proposal is based on training of high level researchers that generate knowledge in their priority areas of science from a quality and excellence program. It responds to the demand for graduate specialization, Masters and professionals that come from biological sciences, health sciences, biotechnical sciences and related disciplines, strengthening their abilities and giving them competitive advantages for their insertion into public or private institutions. Likewise, it contributes to the scientific development in the country through training of advanced human resources in the areas of basic sciences and their applications.

Specific Objectives

  • To deepen knowledge on an advanced level that allows you truly understand the mechanisms of the cellular function and the processes of the entire organism.
  • To solve complex research problems in an ideal scientific environment that allows through experiences in a state-of-the-art laboratory, to contribute new knowledge in the discipline.

Graduate profile

Is able to problematize and critically analyze, through a scientific-based method, the formulation of relevant questions that allow to advance in the generation of original knowledge that contributes to the development of their area of study in the basic sciences field of research and its applications.

The graduate must be a high level researcher, with a specialized training in the following lines of research: cellular, molecular and development biology; immunology and inflammation, genomic biology and molecular genetics; neurosciences, physiology and pathophysiology, microbiology and virology, bioinformatics and biomedical nanotechnology.

Must be a professional with communicational abilities, able to lead teams of basic research or applied research in public or private institutions laboratories, using a wide range of skills related to the ability to develop top-tier research while guarding the ethical and bioethical principles.

When finalizing the training process, graduates of the PhD in Molecular Biosciences Program will be capable of:

  • Demonstrate theoretical and practical knowledge on an advanced level in the lines of research that allow them to perform autonomously.
  • Generate new knowledge in the Molecular Bioscience area from conductive research that contemplates the design of a research project based on hypothesis, methodological strategy and state of the art analysis, based on protocols and ethical and bioethical normatives to resolve complex problems in their field of study.
  • Execute original research that contributes to the Molecular Biosciences area, incorporating strategies of collaborative work in accordance with the achievement of common goals.
  • Communicate written and orally the results derived from research in the Molecular Sciences area to the specialized and non-specialized community.

Lines of Research

Description of the research line

This line of research addresses the study of molecular bases related to cell function and molecular pathology, with an emphasis in gene and epigenetic mechanisms of expressión regulation, cell signaling and physiopathology.

This line of research focuses on the study of molecular mechanisms and genetic bases of microorganism physiology, including topics related to pathogenicity, pathogen-host interaction and ecology, genetic diversity and evolution of microorganisms.
