The PhD in Education and Society program is a multidisciplinary initiative born at the Faculty of Education and Social Sciences at Universidad Andrés Bello. Its creation comes from its vision conviction to promote and train researchers based on the understanding of education as a social phenomenon.

Specific Objectives

  • Give students advanced knowledge in quantitative and qualitative research methods, from Social Sciences and Humanities applied to the lines of research of public policy politics, wellbeing and socioemotional education; language, education and society.
  • Develop skills and aptitudes in the graduates to autonomously and ethically formulate and implement research projects and lead multidisciplinary research teams.
  • Contribute to the development of new knowledge in Education and Society from the development of research and scientific publications.


Graduate Profile

Graduates from the PhD in Education and Society program from Universidad Andrés Bello are high-level researchers with a multidisciplinary approach and specialized methodological tools in the Social Sciences and Humanities. They’re able to formulate relevant scientific questions on the educational phenomenon observed, to develop new knowledge in the area created by the intersection of Education and Society.


Research Lines

The PhD in Education and Society has three research lines:

This line of research focuses on studying subjective, organizational, community wellbeing, identifying, and preventing risk factors in the educational and social context. It aims to contribute to developing and collecting personal and social indicators that favor the development of wellbeing inside academic communities from a socio-ecological perspective.

This line of research focuses on the analysis of processes which through people comprehend and produce languages as ways to represent, understand and participate in different sociocultural and educational contexts, in their first and second languages, in academic and social contemporary contexts.

This line of research centers its interest on tracing and analysis of Educational Policies to understand their underlying concepts, their design and implementation logic, and their processes and models of evaluation.

Requirements and applications

To apply, it is required:

  • Photocopy of ID.
  • Birth certificate.
  • Legalized photocopy of Bachelor’s Degree or Professional Title.
  • Concentration of grades from the last program conductive to the academic grade achieved and its accreditation.
  • Two letters of recommendation.
  • Letter of evaluation with professional goals, doctoral study interests and research.
